Transforming Healthcare in Sri Lanka

Revolutionizing Healthcare through Digital Innovation

At eSHIFT Partner Network, we are dedicated to advancing global health through cutting-edge digital solutions. Our latest milestone, the National Digital Health Blueprint for Sri Lanka, exemplifies our commitment to creating impactful, sustainable health systems. This groundbreaking project, developed in collaboration with SanteSuite Inc. and the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka, is a testament to the power of innovation and international cooperation.

A Vision for a Healthier Nation

The National Digital Health Blueprint is more than just a project; it is a vision for a healthier, more connected Sri Lanka. This comprehensive strategy aims to enhance the country's healthcare delivery, accessibility, and management through state-of-the-art digital technologies. Despite the challenges faced by Sri Lanka in recent times, our dedicated team and partners have demonstrated that innovation and dedication can lead to extraordinary outcomes.

Drawing from Global Best Practices

Our approach to developing the blueprint was deeply influenced by global standards and best practices. We drew inspiration from the successful digital health strategies of Australia, Canada, and Singapore. By aligning with these international exemplars, we ensured that Sri Lanka's blueprint incorporates proven strategies, architectures, and interoperability standards. This alignment guarantees that the blueprint is both innovative and practical, ready to meet the needs of Sri Lanka’s healthcare system.

Structured and Holistic Approach with TOGAF

To ensure a robust and scalable digital health ecosystem, we adopted TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) principles. This structured methodology allowed us to meticulously identify business services, data requirements, supporting architecture, and appropriate technologies. The result is a cohesive, scalable digital health framework that aligns business goals with technological solutions, ensuring sustainability and growth.

Collaborative Excellence

The success of this project is a result of extensive collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), regional organizations like SEARO (South-East Asia Regional Office), and AeHIN (Asian eHealth Information Network). These partnerships provided invaluable guidance, shared best practices, and facilitated knowledge exchange. Our international team, spanning three continents, worked closely with the Health Information Unit (HIU) of the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka, ensuring that diverse perspectives and expertise shaped the blueprint.

Principles Guiding Our Blueprint

The National Digital Health Blueprint is underpinned by six business principles:

  1. Evolutionary Change
  2. Innovation and Partnership
  3. Value for Money
  4. Information Sharing
  5. Patient-Centeredness
  6. Standardization

And five technical principles:

  1. Privacy and Security by Design
  2. Re-use of Services
  3. Scalability Focus
  4. Using Open Standards
  5. Interoperability Focus

These principles ensure that the digital health framework is flexible, secure, and capable of supporting a wide range of medical applications.

A Template for the Future

The National Digital Health Blueprint for Sri Lanka is designed to be a replicable model for other nations. Its focus on evolutionary change, patient-centeredness, and interoperability aims to amplify global health benefits. The blueprint has already received tremendous positive feedback and is expected to set new standards for enterprise architecture in digital health systems worldwide.

Celebrating Success and Looking Ahead

We are incredibly proud of the National Digital Health Blueprint and the collaborative efforts that brought it to life. This project highlights what is possible when innovation meets dedication. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka, Dr. Palitha Karunapema, and all our collaborators for their invaluable contributions.
